We agree 100% with the suggestion and are exploring ways to enable this. This represents a significant amount of engineering work hence we don’t have a schedule to share yet.
We’re looking at two related pieces of this:
1) For OneDrive for Business, enable shared folders to be added to the root of the OneDrive folder at all (like in OneDrive Personal).
2) For OneDrive across business and personal, enable shared folders to be placed into subfolders.
We appreciate your patience; this is significant engineering work given the architecture of the products and our diverse customer base, spanning individuals to small businesses to multi-national enterprises to government agencies. We aim to address this while maintaining our industry-leading security, privacy, and compliance commitments.
Thank you for the continued feedback.

We’re actively looking at this scenario, starting with specific files and file types. We will share an update as we are closer to a more specific timeline.

it's obscene that this is not implemented, especially since it is available in the Business version of the service.
The earlier comment about OneDrive ignoring .tmp files is not true, though. I have Office .tmp files that get synced.
The Product Manager who replied "just put those files in another directory" is either a **** or a jerk, when such things are often out of the control of the user when "real" and tmp files are often comingled in the same directory... a la Microsoft Office!!!
