Let me share my vision. In most organizations users have traditionally been issued a user home drive (personal folder) and network shares for files that are consumed by other people (Public Drive). In the new world of cloud storage and single instance storage (Keep the file where it belongs and grant access as needed) users should only have a OneDrive folder provisioned and when sharing content with team members it would show up in the System Folder "Shared with Me" (unable to delete or remove this folder) in OneDrive online and in OneDrive Sync Client. To further facility the ease of locating content that is your own content as well as content that is shared with you; SharePoint Online's "Relevant Documents" widget should pull data from all Office 365 products (OneDrive, Video, SharePoint, Teams, etc..) and display the content with relevant column headers that help users understand which content is theirs and what has been shared.
Now when and employee leaves the organization the their content is reassigned to a supervisor or chosen delegate as the new owner of this content and keep all the associated sharing/permissions intact. The supervisor will see a new System Folder "Delegated Files" with a subfolder of the former employee ( John Doe - One Drive) which is a reference link to the single instance storage (do not waste time moving data)
This would help remove the need for public folder shares or greatly reduce it.
Then to further reduce the need for a legacy Public Drive, SharePoint Online can create a "My Team" widget that would display their department/team users with their presence. Once a user clicks on them the right hand preview pane would show all content that has been created for the team or specifically shared with you.Troy Stevens supported this idea ·
