While we don’t have an update here for adding metadata tags to files, we are continuing to explore this as part of the future roadmap. We recently announced the ability to edit existing metadata from within Teams and will continue to invest in metadata scenarios.

It is tough to convince people to work in sharepoint web interface only, some cases require the onedrive client but we cannot use it with metadata. People that need offline access to files when in transport can't do any work. Very inappropriate.
